Sophie: Often it can be difficult when choosing to start up your own business, whether or not to go out on your own, or whether or not you choose an already reputable brand. So, I thought it would be smart to sit down with the owner of Stroud Homes, James Stroud, and find out what it is that actually sets his company apart from the rest.
James: So, Stroud Homes is different from the rest because of the second-generation nature of our business. I was a franchisee, and I’ve created a system that I believe is better. Creates a better franchisee experience. I believe that Stroud Homes is the best opportunity in Australia. I know that sounds cocky or whatever, but that’s what I believe.
Sophie: Yeah.
James: And if I believe that there’s something else we could be doing to make it better, I would do it. I believe we have better software, we have a better operations manual, we have better training, we have a better culture, we have better support.
Sophie: What is the relationship like, James, between Stroud Homes’ head office and their franchisees?
James: Stroud Homes head office regards their franchisee partners as customers. We want to find a way to keep you happy, so you continue to use our services. We’ve got an app in the business that is just running hot all the time. So, it’s a group communication app, but the builders are continually sharing information to make their businesses better.
Sophie: The fee structure and things around Stroud, and how I would get paid, and how you would get paid, talk me through those steps. What happens there?
James: We have what I call a fair fee structure…
Sophie: Okay.
James: So, basically, I don’t get paid…
Sophie: Yeah.
James: …until you get paid.
Sophie: That sounds good.
James: And that is very important to me. And, you know, there’s business coaches out there, and all sorts of different things that you can…software you could buy to improve your business. You’ll find that it’s all wrapped up at Stroud Homes. The software there…is there, the training is there, and the only difference is that a business coach charges and then leaves. Walks out the front door.
Sophie: Yeah. Right.
James: We put everything we can into your business, and then we wait for you to sell a home, get the slab down, and then pay us our fee.
