In this video, we hear what our Ballarat builders Simon and Bradley have to say about starting a Stroud Homes building franchise.
Brad: Hi, my name is Brad. I’m one of the owners of Stroud Homes Ballarat. And I’ve been in the industry for about 16 years now.
Simon: I’ve been in the industry for about 10 years doing estimating, contract admin, and supervising.
Brad: I’ve worked all around Victoria, but of late, we’ve been concentrating on new homes in the Ballarat and surrounding areas. Well, after 16 years of just going through house-by-house, it appealed to me the vast range of plans, homes, and I guess it just gave us an accelerated push into the market.
Simon: It gave us that ability to set up really quickly and establish ourselves in what is a competitive space.
Brad: Stroud appealed to us because, in the Ballarat area, it’s not a huge name yet. So, we had a chance to be able to make it our own identity with a view of hopefully becoming part of the fabric of Ballarat in the next five years.
Simon: We also liked where they sat in the market to be that next level builder above, you know, sort of, sitting in that top end to the other volume builders and filling that gap to the architectural build. That was something that appealed to us to be able to spend the money on a good quality home, and, yeah, be backed by the brand. I was continually pleased with not only the back-end support from head office but the way the software all interlinks together and makes everyone’s life easier.
Brad: Even though it’s a franchise setup, you’re still in regular contact. I guess it’s the family scene. You know who the owners are, you know who the office staff are. You can be in as much contact as you like and get as much support as you effectively need.
With the Stroud concept, we can focus on doing a good eight hours with specialising in the ins and the outs and not have to do the long days on the tools and have to come and sit in the office all night. We’re chasing, you know, a bit more family time.
Simon: One of the great things about being in a franchise is that you know, where they’ve got 30 odd offices now, so they’ve done it 30 odd times before us. So to have that blueprint of this is how you set your office up, this is how each staff member fits in, to know that as you’re recruiting, you’re filling those roles to then know once those roles are filled, to know that there’s an end game to it is probably one of the biggest things going with a franchise, that you know, you can have that 2, 3, 4, 5-year plan to know that there’s a work-life balance, and it’s just around the corner.
