I’m Nathan Dunn. I’m the Stroud’s Gold Coast builder, a carpenter by trade. So, I worked for my father, that’s where it all started. My uncle is a builder as well. So, I got a fair bit of experience and time hands-on with them and progressed my way through the industry. And I’ve worked for many builders in Queensland, some of the major builders, so I had experience with them and thought I’d give it a crack myself.
Since about year 2000, I’ve been operating my business hands-on, running my own jobs, doing a few houses, renovations, get some experience out there with clients on their houses. Just wanted a change. Predominately, I wanted to get off the tools. So, I decided to look at the potential of a franchise, because I was a little bit frustrated with where I was at at that stage. And I thought, you know, the attraction of the franchise would provide me with stability, and systems, and processes, and give me a solid springboard.
I did look at other franchise opportunities, and I was really impressed with James and his vision and where he was going. And I thought the whole values that James was, you know, attesting to, I wanted to be a part of that. I was fully confident in moving forward, and yeah, it’s been a great decision.
Not being overly systems focused person, I found it difficult initially to adapt to, you know, the structures of the Stroud Homes systems. But if you fully embrace it and you put the hard work in, the benefits will pay off. In the five years I’ve been with Stroud Homes, yes, we’ve had some good times, some bad times, some up and downs, but you ride the wave. And generally, I have experienced a lot of work-life balance. Don’t get me wrong, it’s a business, so you only get back what you put in.
