Before joining Stroud, I was running carpentry gangs and doing lots of renovations and extensions. I received a cold text message really one day from head office, yeah, just inquiring about...to builders in Victoria who'd wanna join up with Stroud Homes. So I ran this past my father who's also my business partner. And yeah, we were looking to get ahead of the renovation game through Stroud, we saw that that was the best opportunity to get into new homes. And we met with James and he showed us all his systems and how to join up with Stroud, and we took that opportunity.
When weighing up joining Stroud, we looked at how you would actually open a new homes business. So obviously plans, procedures, marketing, all of those things, yeah, which take time and money to get into. That definitely led us to choosing Stroud because when you sign up you've got the plans, you've got the procedures, you've got the marketing. So you're a business that can pretty much get going from day one.
It's given me a lot more structure, especially throughout my days, and, you know, what tasks we need to get done from concept to handover. Stroud's shown me the way to get the home built. With the Stroud systems, you've got systems for sales contracts, estimating and running the jobs. OnSite Companion's the one that the whole team uses in the office, contracts administrator, estimator, supervisor, and we're all able to see where the jobs are at and when things are ordered. And when they're getting delivered and once the job's done. Having the systems in place, you don't have to think about things as much and they're easy to use.
As a part of the Stroud building network I guess, I can quite comfortably pick up the phone and chat to some of the more experienced builders up in Queensland or New South Wales. And they're always happy to share information and help me with whatever challenges I'm up against on a day-to day-basis. You've also got the support of head office, they're always watching, making sure that you're financially okay, that your leads are coming through, merchandise, all the brochures, things like that. So you're not alone in the journey. You've got a full team of support staff in head office to help.
Life's a bit different as a Stroud builder. You know, you come off...jump off the tools, and then you're thrust into being a businessman. So, you definitely have to level-up and you know people are relying on you to buy homes from you. So you need to, yeah, jump up to that level. With James as a mentor I've been able to level-up as such and sell homes, get contracts signed, get slabs done and handover homes.
