Being a structural engineer, I run a engineering consultancy where we would design both residential and commercial properties. My specialty is in concrete construction and also structural specification. I’ve been in construction for over 20 years, found that I really wanted to differentiate myself in terms of defining my own brand in Victoria. Through due diligence and looking around. Stroud on the internet really stood out for me, and I was able to approach them, ask them about what they were about. I was impressed by the way they presented what they had and their business model. Also, the economics of getting into the franchise seems to make sense to me.
The floor plans itself lends itself very well to acreage through to homes with granny flats, duplex, we’ve learned a lot from marketing through to internet sort of advertising through sales techniques, contract admin, the support and the business development advice that you get from Stroud and the infrastructure is fantastic. You want the extra training with the software, they’re there to help you out. And I’ve come through to your site and spend lots of time with you depend on what your needs and wants are, you sort of feel self-assured that you’ve got the backup behind you and some way you wanna take your franchise, that’s up to you.
I would encourage anybody, especially when you’re in the initial talks before you make the decision to go into a Stroud franchise, to ring as many other builders as you can just to gauge their feeling for what worked for them or didn’t, you pick and choose what’s appropriate for you, autonomous in the way that you can influence where you want to build, how you wanna build, what you wanna build, what prices you have or cost structures or suppliers.
My expectations were that I would have a certain number of slabs down within the first 12 months, the head office guys gave me a reality check. I wasn’t going to build 50 homes in the first year. And so during that process, so I was able to realign what I thought were realistic expectations based off the statistical data that Stroud have, and I was able to sort of anticipate a slabs down 7 within the first 12 months, what we estimated was under what we’re achieving, so we’re very excited to to move forward and see what next year brings. I do have high expectations. But that’s my clients as well. They have high expectations they expect me to deliver. So the client I’m dealing with, I’m really enjoying being part of their experience. And knowing that the Stroud system can really support me to give them a value add on their home builds.
