Had I continued down the track I started with, which is building, you know, homes myself by not being part of any group or anything like that, I couldn’t imagine me being able to build more than, you know, 5 or 10 homes a year if I was lucky. The wife and I thought about it and thought, well, maybe, we go back and have a look at this franchising idea again. James and his whole philosophy of how he believes the business should run and his priorities and everything really suited my principles and everything. And here it is, we signed up with James, and here we are, you know, building homes, so.
We opened our office on the 5th of August 2017. At the time of going through all the, you know, getting the office all set up and opened, and starting to deal with customers, and quoting jobs, and getting on top of all the systems and all that, I look back at that and go, “Wow, you know, that’s a distant memory.” We’re sailing full steam ahead now. It gets better and better all the time. Things are just really starting to come together for us. And it’s starting to really pay off, all that hard work.
Conference days, I look forward to those, every three months. I really look forward to them because it’s a chance to, you know, learn from other guys doing exactly what I’m doing, to learn how they’re doing it, how successful they’ve been, help them with what I’ve learned. I really like those days, and you wouldn’t have this if you’re building by yourself.
I wanted to find out a way of getting off the tools. And I initially started building a couple homes myself, whereas I’ll start seven houses between now and Christmas, which I couldn’t even think about doing that if I had stayed just doing it by myself. And that’s because of the systems that are in place, and the training and support, and the plans, and the whole system, the whole thing. Yeah, you could never do it by yourself.
From where we’ve come in the last 12 months to where we are today, I think in 12 months from today, I think I’ll be a very happy guy, yeah. I want to get it to a stage where I can have somebody managing the business, and I just go into the office, you know, couple of times a week and just check on things, see that everything’s going okay, and, you know, step right back from it, you know. Ultimately, you know. Obviously, that’s a few years off yet, but you never know. If I do it right, maybe it’s sooner than later.
